George Washington Nugent is the only known child of Jane Nugent born on October 16, 1863. His father is unknown but was believed to have been a student at the University of the South in Sewanee TN according to family stories. He was raised by his mother, and they lived with his aunt Musadora and uncle Alex Usrey. George married Eunice Elizabeth Bennett May 13, 1893. She died giving birth to their child January 14, 1895. He put up a fence around her grave and stayed there at night for a month to protect her from grave robbers that were in the area. He married Minerva Allen Long August 25, 1895 and they had six children together. He was baptized at the Otey Memorial Parish on July 18, 1904. My father told me he ran a tavern in South Pittsburg Tennessee in the 1920's. George died November 3, 1934 from a cerebral hemorrhage and is buried next to his first wife in the Gipson cemetery in Roark's Cove, Franklin Co., TN.
